A binary star was a focused star system where two stars revolved around a common center of mass within a single star system. Sometimes the pair would become stable enough that planets would form, creating a binary star system, such as with the Tekran System in the Sun'Ta Region. Planets orbiting around such star systems often orbited their parent stars in a figure of eight fashion, and such planets were often hotter and suffered from inhospitable climates that made terraforming a challenge.
Binary stars often put its surrounding system at risk, with twice the chance of a supernova occurring.
